Sometimes we wish we have a GPS locating device on our Windows phones so that we can find them easily when they are left somewhere in the library, restaurant, coffee shop or in our office. Fortunately, there's a simple way for us to find our Windows phone when it is missing and have no clue for where it is. There's a "Find My Phone" feature on Windows phone as that of Android and iPhone.
Step 1. Set up "Find My iPhone"
Make sure that you've turned on "Find My iPhone
" before your Windows phone gone: Go to "Settings
" > "find my phone
" and you will see a prompt saying that "Save my phone's location periodically and before the battery runs out to make it easier to find
", just tick on the box next to it.
Step 2. Log in Your Windows Account on the computer
Go to Microsoft.com and sign in with your Windows phone account. Then, you will see the interface as below. As you can see, the Windows phone info as well as its last seen position will be shown in the interface. Go to devices and click on "Find my phone
" next to the device name you want if there are more than one.
Step 3. Ring, Rock or Erase Windows Phone
Now, you will be shown the location of your Windows phone. As you can see from the left side of the screen, there are several options for you – Ring, Lock and Erase. Let me introduce them one by one to you.
: If you choose "Ring
", the Windows phone will ring even if it is now turned vibration mode.
" allows you to lock up your Windows phone so that others can not overlook the data in your Windows phone. If you have never set up any unlock passcode on your Windows phone, you can set up one now. One more note for you: You can also leave a message on the screen such as phone number or email so that the one who find your Windows phone can contact you and return it back to you.
: If you are quite sure that your Windows phone is stolen and will never come back to you, here's the last thing you can do. Erase all the data in your phone so that the bad guys can't take advantage from your Windows phone data.
Nowadays, more and more apps supports e-pay, which allows us pay for the bill without even carrying cash with us. It will bring us lots of trouble when our Windows phone gets lost. So, my suggestions are: Always double check whether your Windows phone is with you; make sure that you've turn on "Find My Phone
" on your Windows phone; and lastly, backup Windows phone data from time to time.
